Chicago is a blues epicenter and home to globally-recognized clubs, record labels and legendary blues performers, who have made critical contributions and influenced 20th century popular music and beyond. Under the leadership of Mike Baum, who kept the blues alive on WNUR for three decades since his undergrad days at NU, the Sunday Blues Show has served as a hotline to the blues scene, locally, nationally and internationally. Sunday Blues Show DJs have included local publicists, performers and recording artists, a Grammy Award winning composers, and members of the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame, who fill each show with music across the blues spectrum, news of latest releases and venue appearances as well as special in-studio guest appearances and performances, bringing the blues community directly in touch with the WNUR audience. The Sunday Blues Show has ventured beyond the studio to provide three days of live coverage from the Chicago Blues Festival, sharing the event's sights and sounds and and artists with listeners, as well as live coverage the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame Awards directly from Buddy Guy's Legends. The Sunday Blues Show is well-known across the Chicagoland and international blues community and is an integral part of the WNUR Sunday block of American roots music.
